PROMPT Core Team

Mark was part of the founding team who conceived and established PMF, becoming its first Chairman in 2011.

Until December 2025, Mark was a Consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

In 2003, as chairman of the SAFE Study group, he was actively involved in providing the evidence that supported the benefit of training locally and together.

Mark has been actively involved in the teaching and development of obstetric emergency training in the UK and worldwide.

Tim Draycott, MD, BSc, MBBS, FRCOG,  Consultant at Southmead Hospital and the University of Bristol.

Tragically we lost our amazing founder, leader and most importantly of all, our precious friend Professor Tim Draycott in November 2025. 

Tims impact on maternity safety has had huge reach across the world and his legacy of 'making the right way, the easy way', will continue through the work of all the teams that knew and loved him.  He was a joy to be around, his humour and ability to make every person feel important, is a rare and distinctive quality that will be missed by all who ever met him.       

Professor Draycott trained in London and the south west of England with valuable time spent working in France, Sweden and South Africa. He was a Consultant Obstetrician at Southmead Hospital since 2002 and a Health Foundation Improvement Science Fellow since 2012. 

During his career Tim led the development of a new academic department in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at North Bristol, that is now recognised as a world leading intrapartum and safety research centre.

Tim’s programme of simulation research has been recognised by prizes from NHS Innovations, NICE, and the BMJ. Tim was also awarded Hospital Doctor of the Year for his intrapartum emergencies work; he has been recognised as a NHS Hero, and was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Excellence in Education by Queen Elizabeth II in 2014.

Tim was the senior clinical advisor to NHS Resolution in the UK, and until the end of December 2022 was a Vice-President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

We send our heartfelt condolences to all that loved and cared for him, and we want to reassure you all that together we will continue his legacy and impact on improving maternity care for mothers and babies across the world, as Tim would have wanted us to do.

Cathy is the lead midwife for the PROMPT Maternity Foundation (PMF). As one of the founder members of PMF, she works with a multi-professional core team to develop and update the suite of PROMPT training programmes and packages for teams in the UK, Ireland and around the world. In addition, she coordinates the development of the PROMPT course manual.

Cathy also supports PMF’s research portfolio, which aims to influence clinical practice by making available evidence and tools to make it easier for maternity staff to provide the best care for mothers and their babies.

In 2017 she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of the West of England for her contributions to maternity services nationally and internationally.

In 2022 Cathy was awarded honorary fellowship from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Sharan is a consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a specialist interest in patient safety, human factors and medical education.

Sharan has been running local PROMPT days in the Southwest region including the multi-professional update days at her local trusts, Undergraduate PROMPT, Train the Trainers courses and is part of the multi-professional team that teaches on the Pre-Hospital PROMPT days.

Siân is a senior midwife who in addition to her clinical roles has previously worked as a lead research midwife, lead practice development midwife and midwifery lecturer.

Having previously co-led the delivery of PROMPT days at her local trust, Siân is now part of the multi-professional team involved in the development and support for the PROMPT resources within the UK and internationally.

Katherine is a clinical fellow and works as a registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology in Bristol. Katherine has an interest in medical education and is studying for a postgraduate diploma in management and leadership in healthcare. Katherine delivers PROMPT local training as well as international training in assisted vaginal birth.

Chloë de Souza

PMF Obstetrician and Research Fellow

Chloë is a PROMPT maternity research fellow and works clinically as a registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology in the Severn region. She has a keen interest in medical education and healthcare leadership. Chloë delivers local PROMPT training as well as being part of the multi-professional team involved in the development of PROMPT resources within the UK and internationally.

Andrew Demetri

PMF Obstetrician and Research Fellow

Andrew is a PROMPT maternity research fellow and an obstetrics and gynaecology registrar based in the Severn region. He has a background in clinical education and simulation, and is involved in delivering local PROMPT training and developing training resources for use in the UK and internationally. His main research interests focus on improving birth experiences, particularly around consent and decision-making in labour, and emergency intrapartum care. Andrew is currently undertaking a PhD with the University of Bristol, investigating and improving outcomes related to impacted fetal head.

Jemma Walker

PMF Project Midwife

Jemma is a midwife on secondment from the University of the West of England. Her previous clinical roles include working as a Practice Development Midwife and Senior Delivery Suite coordinator within the Southwest of England. 

Having previously co-led local PROMPT days within her local trust, more recently she has worked as a Senior Lecturer in Midwifery at the University of the West of England. Jemma coordinates and delivers Undergraduate PROMPT training for student midwives working in collaboration with medical students from the University of Bristol.

Karly is a PMF Administrator working with the charity since January 2018. Karly has many years of PA, administration and project support experience.  She was also previously a trustee on the board of a Bristol perinatal mental health charity and has a keen interest in maternal health.

Joanne has worked within the NHS since 2014, starting as an admin assistance, obstetric medical secretary and was then seconded to the PROMPT team as an administrator.

Joanne works closely with Karly and Claire to provide an excellent support to the clinical team to enable them to deliver the PROMPT training and undertake research.

Claire joined the team in June 2022 and works closely with Karly and Jo, providing support to the team including the development of new and existing training resources.

Jane trained as a Chartered Accountant at PWC before working as Finance Director to companies in construction, a legal practice and in the pensions sector. Jane moved into the charity sector in 2013 and currently supports both PROMPT and the Avon Wildlife Trust.
