In addition to our long history of innovation and research, we are delighted to have developed our collaboration with Limbs and Things, with the introduction of our research fellowship in August 2023.

PMF and L&T recognise the importance of evaluating the effectiveness of simulation training. PMF recommends the use of the PROMPT Flex manikin for shoulder dystocia (SD) training that has been associated with important reductions in birth injuries in the UK and internationally. More recently, PMF and L&T have co-developed new tools for training in the management of impacted fetal head at caesarean births.

We are looking forward to continuing to work together and developing more training resources in this exciting collaboration.

History

In 1997 The Confidential Enquiry into Maternal & Child Health (CEMACH) reported evidence of substandard care in more than 50% of all maternal deaths in the UK, with a lack of multi-professional team working and communication failures identified as contributory factors.

PROMPT's story

As a result of the positive findings of the SaFE Study and also the associated outcome improvements at Southmead Hospital, the PROMPT (PRactical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training) Train-The-Trainers package was developed by a dedicated group of health care professionals based in maternity units in the South West of England, UK. The package was designed to be used locally and to improve outcomes for mothers and their babies.
